The subject of this number is the evolution and the practice
of Competitive Intelligence in our scope of interest, with
referring articles to Latin America and Spain.
We began with an article prepared by the PUZZLE directors
that describes the stages and the contributions made from
Spain with respect to the CI. In the first part, one is
fundamentally a revision of detached literature in four
stages: initiation or "discovery" of the concept,
enterprise information, technological intelligence and competitive
intelligence. Next several of the characteristics of the
CI in the country work to finalize some tendencies that
can be manifest in the future. Neither need mention that
the authors are interested in gathering additional impressions
and sources that they can help to make a pursuit of the
evolution of the CI in Spain.
A second work introduces the interesting concept of National
System of Intelligence, providing in parallel examples the
application of the CI since the public land - that is to
say, to initiate of the governments of diverse levels -
in various countries. This text suggests the elements that
a system of that nature should possess and evaluates the
situation in Mexico.
In a third place we present a vision of the practice of
the CI from the perspective of the consultancy originating
from the south cone. It is shown that the activity of the
CI is growing also in that area and that the peculiar difficulties
that can be present are surmountable with initiative and
inventive virtues of the consulting work. We include also
an extract of a round table discussion celebrated in Spain
in a framework of CI from an organization - Gaiker - in
support to the small and medium-size businesses. Diverse
experts expose their opinions to diverse themes of practical
character with useful suggestions of application in other
environments.
In the line of studies promoted since the team of PUZZLE,
we present also a summary of the last work based on a survey
to our subscribers that collects prominent characteristics
of the CI in the Latin American and Spanish environments.
With it we inaugurate a Hispanic Observatory of CI. The
conclusions of the report should serve to contrast and to
guide the activities of CI, and be an element of debate
about the road that our activity should continue in the
future. Neither has to say that we offer PUZZLE as vehicle
of expression of these anxieties.
We trust that this number dedicated to the situation of
the CI in all the Hispanic Community be of your interest
and can offer a vision, although partial, of the practice
of the Intelligence.

This
article describes the evolution of Competitive Intelligence
(CI) in Spain by looking at the specialized literature
available on the subject and analyzing how CI has been
adopted and developed in Spanish firms. The second part
of the article introduces the more important results
of a survey carried out at the beginning of this year.
Multinational firms and best-run firms were studied
and compared against an identical CI framework. The
article concludes with a description of the potential
barriers to the full development of CI in Spain and
some of the conditions required in order for this development
to be achieved. A perspective for the future is also
introduced. |
