The 12th edition of PUZZLE deals with the subject of formation in Competitive Intelligence (CI) and Technology Watch (TW) for professionals and users. It is one part practical cases or experiences and another theoretical developments.

The exhibition of two experiences treated from different perspectives and developed in the Hispanic Community appears, concretely in Mexico and Spain. These two projects develop the subject of the formation in CI under a great perspective; the structure of the contents, the assimilation of the CI in the company, the formation in the academic scope, the importance that exists in introducing the concepts of the CI in other courses of formation, the management of the knowledge or the profile that the student would have to develop. However, the experience demonstrates that a unique system of learning does not exist although in education it tends to use common guidelines (technical and methodological). The theoretical articles, developed partly from the experience of their authors in the formation, contribute guidelines that will allow a more effective development of a possible plan.

The first article approaches the subject of the importance of a professional profile for a good professional of the CI, as much for Directors as for the executives of the CI. The following article develops to the structure and the contents of an experience made with the participation of several professionals and experts of information who complete a picture of a practical and constructive formation where the students could participate and contribute their individual experiences. Finally an experience is exposed that tries to promote the development of the creativity and the inventiveness in the engineering students as it bases to develop and to design innovating products and to solve the problems of inventiveness for the creation of new products of high technological challenge.

The formation is an essential component in the management of the CI activities. Normally this activity is made so much before the planning of the development of the activities that compose the unit of CI throughout the process. A good plan of formation in the CI unit allows to reach the maximum level of abilities and competitions hoped for by the company, thus to obtain the maximum benefit on the part of Competitive Intelligence or the Technology Watch.

Training in Competitive Intelligence: What contents for which targets?, Joaquín Tena Millán and Alessandro Comai
Formación en la Inteligencia Competitiva: ¿Qué contenidos para qué destinatarios?, Joaquín Tena Millán y Alessandro Comai
July-August 2004, Vol.3, No.12, pp.4-9
- The article provides some thoughts about the contents that can be included in specialized Competitive Intelligence training programs and on the diversity of target groups for that type of training. The article suggests a training priority framework- the CI training pyramid - and a description of the main types of trainees. Suggestions that are made here should help for the establishment of contents as well as other CI training parameters, therefore also in the design of general or ad hoc - for instance, in company - programs, in a varied type of circumstances.
-
